I was wondering what the overnight travel to Austria is like I have paid extra for the Silver Service Coach, also I am not interested in the optional Innsbrucke trip due to going there a couple of times,so was wondering what there is to see in the area we are supposed to stay at.

Any advice would be appreciated, the last trip I did with Leger was last year when I did the all inclusive trip to Switzerland, and the Glacier Express I would say to date it was the best holiday I have had with Leger Holidays.

Hi Michael

Thanks for getting in touch I have had a quick word with our product team and they have provided the following information :-

Travelling by Silver Service you will have more room to relax and get some sleep through the night travel. With 8ASM tour we usually stay in different hotels on each departure but will be in the Tyrol area so the customers will be in a picturesque area which should be nice to relax in and maybe take a gentle walk.

Hope this helps if there is anything else we can assist with then please let us know, have a great time on holiday.

Best regards

Michael

Hi Michael,

I just realized I forgot to thank you for your reply,I must say I'm looking forward to this  trip and having a lazy day at the resort, the day of the Innsbruck trip.

After going Silver Service to Switzerland last year the extra cost is well worth the money, and I doubt if I would go back to the Executive Coach Trips now.

I would like to thank you and and the reservations staff for helping me sort out the holidays I've been on.

Hi Mike,

Just returned from Austria 'Sound of Music' week. As far as travel is concerned Leger did a great job regarding co-ordination of pick-ups. Went out on a channel ferry from Dover to Calais and returned via Eurotunnel. There was a long delay using Eurotunnel which was not Leger's fault but they changed time for sub-feeder taxi for pick-up. As far as the over-night travel I was on a normal coach I won't do it again (even using Silver service) - 20 hours travelling by coach there and 20 hours back didn't do my back any good let alone my rear end!  Depends where you are travelling from in the UK how long you are travelling. I would prefer a stop over in a hotel there and back even if it costs more if I do this sort of trip again.

Not sure if you are doing the Day Seven optional local coach trip on the Austria Sound of Music tour that includes Lake Achensee. The level of the lake is being lowered due to maintenance on the hydro-electric dam (date 09/10/2009). Only one boat running - the St Benedict (300 seats). The lake was due to be lowered even more so boat trip might not be possibe soon. Not sure how long the maintenance will last.

Many thanks for your information about the Austrian Sound of Music trip,to tell you the truth it was only after I had booked the trip and paid the deposit, I realized it was a over night coach trip, normaly I go for the overnight stop trips,(think I'll take a cushion).Teach me to read the brochure more carefully.

I'm going from Peterborough Cambridgeshire when I went to Switzerland it was about 3 Hrs to Dover, but we stopped at Reims, going out and Brussels Holiday Inn on the return.

I was also hopeing to do the Lake Cruise as well still I'm not going until next year so hopefuly the work might have finished by the time I go.

Hi Mike,

One other thing on our particular trip that was not mentioned in the Leger info. On the last day in Austria all travellers had to vacate their room by 10:00 hours with luggage loaded on the coach at 08:30 hours. Remember that the return journey will not leave for the UK until 21:00 hours. No special provision was made for people to 'freshen up' before leaving and nowhere to get some sleep before the journey home. The coach crew had a rest day so you have a choice of going on an optional excursion (local company - very good) or do your own thing. The hotel we stayed at did a dinner prior to leaving which cost 12 euros per person as it is not included in the Leger tour. Leger might change this before you go but I thought I'd mention it.

Hi Zetlands,

Thanks for your advice about having a meal on the last day,I know when I went to Switzerland last year the journey back went for ever.

We left the hotel at 08.30 and arrived at Brussels at 23,30,we stopped at a resteraunt in Holland for a evening meal, the coach crew bought a menu round and took the orders then phoned ahead, that meal was about 15 euro's.

What did you think of the rest of the tour? I quite like Austria and Germany and have done the Rhine Valley, also I've been to Lake Garda as well.

Hi Mike,

I found the tour good overall. We were fortunate that the weather was very good for the week (2nd to 9th October 2009). It was up into the 80's F during the day with the usual early morning and evening chill and it didn't rain until the night we left. Also the first Sunday was a local 'Family Day' - something like a harvest festival - with a church parade with locals in traditional costume, brass band, cows being paraded through the town with bells and ribbons etc. It was the first time I had been to Tirol/Austria so did as many of the optional tours as possible to get a feel of the place. I think the outcome was more by luck than judgement as I must say the Leger coach crew we had were not up to scratch - knowledge wise not good and too many 'wrong turns' going to places. The hotel was good - The Stockerweit in Reith - family run and clean. Don't expect the usual English fayre for your evening meal i.e. no chips but pasta and rice as part of the meal. Austrian food is not world renound and portions were on the small side.

The obvious major downside at the moment is the value of the British Pound against the Euro. It makes things pretty expensive in Austria.

Hi,

I'm due to travel on the 5th July tour to Austria the Sound of Music trip, and was just wondering what the cost of the Krimmel Falls/Kitzbul excursion costs and also the optional Mondsee trip during the day trip to Salzburg costs,as I was thinking of setting aside £65.00 to cover any excursions.

I thought the day the trip to Innsbruke I could spend looking around the town village we will be staying in,as I have been to Innsbruke a couple of times.

Also I was wondering if any one from Peterborough or Cambridgeshire will be going on this trip.

Michael
